Our Programme

Many grassroots ethnically diverse women in Hong Kong face barriers to employment. Caring responsibilities, language challenges and limited opportunities can make it difficult to earn an income outside the home. Through The Zubin Foundation’s Women’s Empowerment Programme, mothers learn creative skills, build friendships and create handcrafted products that connect them to customers across Hong Kong. Every purchase supports a woman on her journey towards greater independence and economic participation.

What We Do

1. Create Income Opportunities
Supporting women to earn from their skills and craftsmanship.

2. Build Confidence and Community
Providing a safe and welcoming space where women can learn, create and connect.

3. Develop Sustainable Skills
Equipping women with practical skills that can create long-term opportunities.

Meet the Women Behind the Products

Behind every product is a woman balancing family responsibilities while building something for herself. For many participants, joining the programme is their first opportunity to earn an income, learn a new skill or be recognised for their talents outside the home. Through creativity and craftsmanship, they are building confidence, friendships and brighter futures for their families.

As featured by the South China Morning Post, the programme has helped women transform their skills into products that generate income and bring a renewed sense of purpose.

Anila’s Story

“When I see someone buying my bag that I sewed, I cannot help but smile,” Anila, Programme Participant

For Anila, earning income from her creations brought pride, independence, and the ability to contribute towards family expenses.

The programme has also been praised by Hong Kong’s Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Chris Sun, who highlighted the value of empowering women through skills rather than assistance alone.

“It’s more than just giving them money or a subsidy. They’re talented, and they’re doing some great handicraft. People love it,”
– Chris Sun, Secretary for Labour and Welfare

This independent recognition reflects what we see every day: when women are given the opportunity to learn, create and earn, they thrive.
